This concept car introduced in Chicago at the beginning of 1956 experimented a new kind of station wagon. The passenger compartment has eight seats. Two of them, at the rear, face rearwards on a retractable bench seat. The rear fenders are partially raised to allow access to the wheels in the event of a puncture. Designed by Virgil Exner and made in Italy by Ghia, the Plainsman remained unique.

When production resumed in 1946, a whole Town and Country range was offered, within which the convertible was the most popular. This 1947 model year is close to the 1946 and 1948 models. The grille was redesigned in 1949.
