Volvo 480 Turbo (Minichamps) 1:87

Volvo 480 Turbo white (Minichamps) 1:87

This peculiar coupe was released in 1986, two years before the 440 sedan that shares its platform. This approach is opposite to that generally chosen by manufacturers. The 480 was Volvo’s first front-wheel drive, developed in the Netherlands (in the former offices of DAF, a brand bought by Volvo). The cabin offered four seats and the car received a Renault engine, with or without turbo.

Volvo 740 GL green (Minichamps) 1:18

Those who like the 240’s taut lines were delighted when Volvo introduced the series 700, in 1982. This large family car was first released as the 760, with V6 engines. Later, Volvo launched the 740 with 4-cylinder blocks. In 1985, the estate joined the range. The career of the series 700 continued in 1992 when it was restyled and renamed 940 and 960, and lasted until 1998.

Launched in 2003, the first-generation XC90 was a success for Volvo. The second one was introduced in 2014 at the Mondial de Paris and launched in 2015. Meanwhile, Volvo, formerly owned by Ford, was bought by the Chinese group Geely. Now 4.95 m/195 in.-long instead of 4.80 m/189 in., the XC90 can be easily distinguished from an XC60.

Volvo 66 Estate (IXO) 1:43

Volvo 66 Estate green (IXO) 1:43

The Dutch brand DAF launched this small car with a Renault engine in 1972. It was the updated version of the DAF 55. In August 1974, the Swedish manufacturer Volvo bought DAF. Exactly one year later, and quite naturally, the DAF 66 was renamed Volvo 66. Only some slight aesthetic details changed at that time. This version reproduced in 1:43 scale is a three-door wagon.

Volvo P1800 ES black (Maxichamps) 1:43

Immortalized in the TV series "The Saint", the unusual P1800 was launched in 1960. But this shooting brake variant ES, even more unusual and famous, waited until 1971 to be released. Its career was short, since Volvo stopped production of the P1800 in 1973. Only 8,078 units of the P1800 ES were produced, to be compared with nearly 40,000 for the "classic" coupe.

Based on the 1967 Volvo 140, the 240 ended its career in 1993 and is to date the Swedish manufacturer’s most-produced vehicle with 2.9 million units. The station wagon was very popular in the range, which also included a sedan and a coupe. Here we have the Polar series, intended for the Italian market from 1989. There it will become the only 240 available when the 850 was launched in 1992.

Volvo P1800 1961 red (Norev) 1:18

After NEO and Premium X, Norev reproduced this icon in 1:43 scale. The P1800, immortalized in the TV series "The Saint" starring Roger Moore, was unveiled in 1960. Production began in 1961 in Great Britain, in Jensen’s facilities, and was transferred to Sweden from 1963. Norev dates this model car from 1961, still with the boomerang bumpers that disappeared in August 1964.

Volvo 240 GL blue (Maxichamps) 1:43

The long history of the Volvo "200" started in 1974 and ended in... 1993. And yet, when it was launched, it was only a slight restyling of the 140 unveiled in 1967. In 1986, the 240 benefitted from minor changes for the umpteenth time. The front grille, redesigned in 1978, was further amended and the mirrors and headrests were replaced.
