Between late 1988 and late 1991, 8,000 units of this roadster were produced. The Z1 borrows its 2.5-litre 6-cylinder (170 hp) from the 325i and receives a distinctive feature: its doors (fixed, here) can slide downward. Harm Lagaay, a Dutch stylist working for the German manufacturer from 1985 to 1989 before returning to Porsche, designed this car, quite unusual for a BMW of the time.
