Issue de la Willys utilisée par l’armée américaine pendant la seconde guerre mondiale, la Jeep CJ (“civilian Jeep”) débute en 1944. La CJ-5 succède à la CJ-3B en 1954 sans qu’il n’y ait jamais eu de CJ-4. En 1969, l’Américain Charles Prater lui greffe une remorque faisant office de camping-car, qui sera ensuite produite par Jeep, pendant quelques mois. 336 exemplaires en seront fabriqués.

When renewed in 2006, the Wrangler came in a 5-door variant called Unlimited. This version offers a stretched body (53 cm/21 in.-longer), transforming the rear-seat space. The interior of the Wrangler range was updated for 2011. The trim level of the 2018 model year is called Rubicon.

Willys provided the first Jeeps to the US Army during World War II. This brand, created in 1908 and which had bought Overland in 1912, went on producing this model after the war, both for the civilian market and the army. This M38 (a version produced from 1950) appears in the TV Series MASH produced from 1972 to 1983.

The CJ-7 is the last authentic Jeep model built before the 1986 Wrangler, whose design was very similar except the square headlights. Released in 1976, the CJ-7 is also the Jeep sold, from 1982, by the French manufacturer Renault, which owned the brand for a while. The one reproduced here is driven by actress Linda Hamilton in the movie "Terminator" by James Cameron, released in 1984.

The CJ-7 is the last authentic Jeep, produced just before the launch of the Wrangler in 1986, which looked rather close but received square headlights, from the beginning. Released in 1976, the CJ-7 is also the Jeep that Renault, which temporarily owned the brand, also sold from 1982. The one reproduced here appears in the American TV series The A-Team.

When renewing the Wrangler in 2006, Jeep added a five-door variant to the Wrangler, named Unlimited. Its wheelbase is 53 cm/21 in.-longer, which transfigures its roominess. The Wrangler that Greenlight reproduced here in 1:43 scale is a 2013 model year, with no winch, wearing the colours of the US Army.

At the end of WWII, the military Jeep manufactured by Willys began its civilian career. Its name became CJ, for "Civilian Jeep", then CJ-3B in 1953, when it received a taller grille to accommodate a new engine. The company, sold to Kaiser, was renamed Willys Motors. The CJ-3B will be produced in the United States until 1968 and in India by Mahindra until 2010!
