The compact BMW “New Class”, which preceded the first-generation 3 Series, was released in 1966 and this 2002 with a 2-litre engine in 1968. At that time, BMW did not offer any “home-made” convertible; only the German coachbuilder Baur did. The convertible variant of the “02” was launched in 1967, but this version with a roll bar was unveiled at the Amsterdam Auto Show in 1971.
