Chevrolet had removed the Camaro from its range in 2002. Observing the success of the 2004 Ford Mustang, General Motors felt compelled to launch a new generation of its muscle car. This one is a 2012 model year, initially released in April 2009 in coupe in the United States. Its design is obviously reminiscent of the first generation, launched in September 1966.
