Available from 1936, the 170V is the most popular prewar Mercedes model. The letter V meant Vorn (front) to distinguish this front-mounted engine 170 from the rear-mounted engine 170H. Its production was discontinued in 1942 and resumed in 1946, starting with commercial variants then in July 1947 for the five-seat passenger cars.
